Magaliesburg offers a variety of hiking trails that cater to different skill levels and provide breathtaking views of the Magaliesberg Mountains. The best times to walk in Magaliesburg is from Feb to October
1. Mountain Sanctuary Park
A private nature reserve known for its tranquil environment, natural rock pools, and guided hiking trails.
Only guided trails available for campers. Please book in advance.

Recommended Route: (This route is tarred for all but the last 2.5 km)
Take the R512 (past Lanseria).
At the Broederstroom T-junction turn LEFT.
After Pecanwood turn RIGHT at the SUN-CITY / BRITS turn-off this is still the R512 and will take you over the dam. Continue with the R512 until you see the N4 Rustenburg sign. Take the on-ramp for N4 Rustenburg.
continue with N4 and take the Buffelspoort off ramp.
After the toll booth turn left and carry on till the t-junction there will be a Mountain Sanctuary Park sign -turn right. At the 3 way stop turn left.
After about 10km turn LEFT towards MAANHAARRAND.
Follow the MOUNTAIN SANCTUARY PARK SIGNS.
Alternate Route: (Not recommended. It crosses Breedt's Neck Pass which is seldom in good condition,and requires a 4x4 vehicle.
From Krugersdorp / Magaliesburg take the R24 towards Rustenburg.
Take the MAANHAARRAND turn-off to the RIGHT.
Cross Breedt's Neck Pass. Be Careful!
Just after the small shop on the right turn RIGHT.
Follow the MOUNTAIN SANCTUARY PARK SIGNS.
If you do not have a 4x4 continue past the Mountain Sanctuary sign and Maanhaaarand turn off and continue on the R24 to Rustenburg.
You will pass the Olifantsnek dam on your right hand side, one then goes through a small Neck and past the Hunters rest hotel on the left hand side.
After the Hunters rest hotel one will come to a large traffic circle and a Mountain Sanctuary Park sign. Turn right the sign is Oorsak.
At the next three way stop turn right again there wiil be a Mountain Sanctuary Park sign on the left. Continue with that road until you get to the Mountain Sanctuary Park sign, turn right and you almost there.
2. Rustig Hiking Trails
Description: Offers multiple trails ranging from 3 km to 18 km, suitable for various fitness levels. The trails provide scenic views of the Magaliesberg and surrounding landscapes.

Description: Ideal for families and pet owners, Kranskloof offers trails that accommodate dogs and provide access to the ancient Magaliesberg mountain range.

4. Milorho Hiking Trail
Description: Nestled on the northern slopes of the Magaliesberg mountains, Milorho offers a moderate 5-6 hour trail through pristine flora and diverse birdlife.
Gauteng.coms visit: They have increased the chalets, and we would love to go again. Stay overnight and do the hike backwards on the second day. Watch for baboons and avoid if possible. The walks go along the river, have a rest at the waterfall and soak your feet in the cool water. Rock formations are exquisite
